The Epharta Theater treated us to 4 bands on Monday night, 3 of them were local. You could not get anymore local than Epharta for the opening act Like Wild. Lead by Patrick Hatt a 4 piece band that falls into the americana/folk/indie styles of music. Playing songs from their Like wild EP and the song ” Rapture Love ” from their 2 song single San Diego Sessions what was recently recorded in San Diego.
Next up was Granville Automatic from Nashville/Atlanta Tennessee. A duo with vocalist/songwriter Vanessa Olivarez who was a finalist on American Idol’s 2nd season. Guitarist/songwriter Elizabeth Elkin who was the grand prize winner of The John Lennon Songwriting Contest. They have been very busy since last April by playing 75 live shows and will be heading south with Adam Taylor for a couple more shows.
Carsie Blanton has the honor of being the first performer to play on stage at Epharta Theater when she opened for Joan Osborne . Accompanied by Joe Plowman on bass Carsie brings a playful style of songwriting. A bit of a storyteller as she tells how her songs came about. Just this past September she played on Mountain Stage. Carsie will be starting off next year by heading west to open for the Wood Brothers.
Adam Taylor brought a totally different sound for him and longtime touring partner Kate Young on Monday. Backing him was Vinegar Creek Constituency a local bluegrass/folk band with a rock in roll intensity. This was a great combination that had the crowd enjoying it. It had a strong energy with a little bit of twang with it. Some of the songs played were “Elvis”, “1251”, “Painting Leprosy”. He had a request to play ” Mrs Mistletoe ” that he joked was more than a request. After the show Adam and Kate were gonna be on the road all night as their next show is Raleigh N.C along with Granville Automatic.
