Rock band, Barbez, is bringing back to life traditional Italian Jewish music which had nearly disappeared. The New York-based band has categorized their music as “haunting mosaic of avant-rock, old-world cabaret, Eastern European folksong, and contemporary classical into a uniquely beautiful and personal soundscape.” This is truly a musical experience that you won’t get to see very often. On Wednesday, November 13th, they will be hitting the World Cafe Live stage to show Philadelphia what it feels to admire great music while also maybe learning some history and culture. Show starts at 8 p.m. – tickets are $9.

Barbez released their fifth album, Bella Ciao, this past summer which is inspired by ancient Roman Jewish melodies and the Italian Resistance during the Second World War. Intertwined with poems from great Italian writer Pier Paolo Pasolini and the wartime poet Alfonso Gatto, their music reaches a level of realness and authenticity that others don’t.
