As you know, we have been anticipating this one… A release from one of those bands that we <3 at TSI, Architecture in Helsinki. It’s been a long, long wait and now you can stream and download the 1st single of their forthcoming album, Moment Bends.

Architecture in Helsinki (AIH) was ahead of it’s time when they released albums years ago like Fingers Crossed & In Case We Die containing songs like “Scissor Paper Rock” & my personal fav, “The Whirlwind”. Some of us were really diggin’ on AHI and other ‘electro indie rock pop’ bands like:  Say Hi To Your Mom (now, just called ‘Say Hi’), Junior Boys, Islands, and Stars of Track and Field  in 2004-2005. This is when the whole ‘electro indie rock pop’ thing felt kinda like a chip off the 80’s, but with a new twist that made us all feel like we had found a hidden jem to add to the collection ‘indie’ classifying genres. But years later bands like MGMT and Passion Pit would come along and brake thru the ‘elctro indie pop rock’ scene and really make it almost mainstream. So it seems predecessors like AIH and those mentioned above, almost took a step back to re-think their electro indie pop sound. As if there were all on some hiatus or decided to call it quits once mainstream radio started playing MGMT’s “Kids”.

Architecture in Helsinki, at least to me, were more creative at times and way ‘out of the box’ with their sounds then those bands now in the ‘borderline indie electro pop’ or ‘mainstream electro indie pop’ category. So we are tickled to see that they are still making music in 2011.  AIH’s new single called “Contact High” will make you wanta ‘shake it’ and play it loud in your car with the windows down.  And it will also leave you wanting to hear more from their forthcoming record.

Band’s First Single in Four Years to be Released

on Forthcoming Album, Moment Bends

Four years since the release of their last album, Architecture in Helsinki have just given the tantalizing initial taste of their new full-length with first single “Contact High.” The exuberant dance-pop track projects the band’s unique charm and is built around an irresistible chorus. Click HERE to stream the track at the band’s website or head over to Pitchfork to grab the download. The band’s upcoming hook-laden, magnetic, and lush new album, Moment Bends will be released on May 3rd through V2/Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records. It sounds like the record they’ve waited their whole lives to make, retaining the fizzing immediacy of its three predecessors and re-molding with a more sophisticated touch.

In large parts, Moment Bends is in dialogue with the dance floor, without being a slave to any particular rhythm. So, imagine a sound equal parts Italia ‘82, California ‘79, and Melbourne 2011, glued together with a dynamic bounce and a compelling romanticism.

Recorded over a 2 year period in the band’s studio space, Buckingham Palace, Songwriter Cameron Bird says: “Moment Bends was all about being at one with our ideas, obsessed with popular music and falling in love with our hometown. We wanted to build a record to get lost in. A record that always feels exactly what you are feeling”.  Architecture In Helsinki will be touring Europe, Australia,  and North America – with US dates scheduled for June.
