Crowd Rushes Stage for MGMT & Atlas Sound at Musikfest 2012

WHO: MGMT
WHERE: Musikfest 2012 – Bethlehem, PA
WHEN: 8.5.12
MGMT and Atlas Sound stopped by Musikfest on sunday to headline day three of the ten day festival. Atlas sound opened with a set of experimental music which several songs seemed to blend into one beautiful mix.

ATLAS SOUND
MGMT played a span of their music including their singles, favorite tracks and several covers. In a sea color the crowd was transported from a wet eastern Pennsylvania town to the coast of any beautiful beach setting. I almost felt as if I was able to smell the salt water in the near distance.

MGMT
The only mix up during the show was the youths and security guards confusion about how concerts were properly handled. The kids ran to the front before MGMT’s set and were immediately pushed back to their seats. As the band began to play they asked everybody to stand and come to the stage, only to encounter a tough presence of security forcing every to remain at their seats. As the music continued a slow chant began to build which was directed solely at the security. James Richardson of MGMT quickly spoke up and noted that “we have enough security in our lives and if the kids wish to come to the stage…then we should let them”. The crowd quickly responded with cheers and ran to the stage with no resistance from security. In a little bit of defense for the security…they were only doing their jobs. I still feel things were handled a bit harshly for a relaxed act such as MGMT, and good for James Richardson for speaking up. There were no instances or disruptions for the rest of the show.

MGMT
Sunday nights show began just as the clouds dispersed from a day of heavy down pours. The weather cleared to a beautiful temperature and amazing sunset. MGMT was a perfect fit for an end of the week…which for me was packed full of concerts, work and nights out that left this person exhausted. Thank you Musikfest for bringing MGMT to PA to finish day three.
