Newport Folk Festival favorites, Deer Tick and The Felice Brothers, displayed their undeniable talent to a sold-out crowd on Friday. Both bands’ raw power was enough to jolt life into the crowd, despite the oddly early set times (Royale becomes a nightclub after the bands finish).

The show climaxed with lead singer John McCauley viciously and repeatedly stabbed his own amplifier with a cymbal stand. The night was a comforting reminder that the capacity for true rock and roll still exists, especially in an industry tainted by misplaced priorities.
