TSI: Start out by telling us a little about the set and setting for The Vibes.
KH: “Gathering of the Vibes is a four-day music and camping festival, and we’re now in our 18th year. …This is our ninth year at Seaside Park [in Bridgeport, CT]. It’s a beautiful, 380-acre park [originally] donated to the city by then-mayor P.T. Barnum in 1865. We see about 20,000 to 25,000 people a day [during the festival].
TSI: What may first-time (and returning) Vibes-goers expect to see, to hear and feel upon arriving?
KH: “First, they can expect to pull into an absolutely beautifully-manicured, 360-acre park with a mile-and-a-half of beach, and with an incredibly diverse makeup of people. The demographic is everyone from 2 years old up to [people who are] 60, 70.
TSI: How about this year’s (and every other years’) amazing Vibes lineup?
KH: “The lineup is — and has always been — incredibly diverse. It covers the musical spectrum. [We’ve had] everyone from James Brown to all the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, Primus, Jane’s Addiction …. [and MANY, many more].
This year, [highlights include] two nights of Phil Lesh & Friends along with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Funky Meters, The Roots [and lots more] … and there’s some really cool late-night entertainment lined up too, [keeping Vibes-goers] raging ’til the sun comes up.
It’s a beach party!”
