Andrew Hozier-Byrne, 24 year old Irishman with a voice that has a soulful, bluesy influence; one certainly can fall quickly for. In a recent Fuse.TV interview, Hozier discussed ‘Take Me To Church,’ a song that lately has been getting a lot of reaction. He stated, “I didn’t write the song to provoke any kind of negative reaction or anything like that. The song, to me, is about what it is to be a human, what it is to love someone as a human being” [Fuse.TV]. If you have never seen the music video, take a look.

It seems that people are reacting to the music video, and not the actual lyrics. Either way Hozier is only explaining his thoughts on basic human rights. Whether people take it a certain way or not, that is their problem. He went further to state, “If you feel offended or disgusted by the image of two people kissing, if that’s what it is, but you’re more disgusted by that than the actual violence … I think you should take a look at your values, maybe. I don’t think there really should be a controversy when we’re talking about a basic human right and the equal treatment of people. Electing a person in the place of an organization, like the church, as something that is worth worshipping and something that is worth loving, something tangible and real” [Fuse. TV].

His first album is out now, and you can find it here.
