Photo Recap:  Jonny Corndawg Record Relase Show

The Extraordinaire’s

Union Pool, Brooklyn NY

Despite that evil bitch Irene, Jonny Corndawg made a triumphant return to the Union Pool in Brooklyn to celebrate the anticipated release of Down on the Bikini Line.  As it turns out, this show was to be Corndawg’s official release party as multiple appearances were cancelled due to inclement weather, including a rock and roll cruise around Manhattan the day of the hurricane.

Although I apologetically missed the night’s opener Icerod while eating a delicious quesadilla from the Union Pool taco truck, I was able to make it in for a very lively set from TSI favorites The Extraordinair’s.  Additional photos here.

Jonny Corndawg headlined the packed Union Hall auditorium with help from songwriting phenom Jimmy Cousins and a few country ringers filling out a four man ensemble.  Corndawg played just about all of the songs on his record Down on the Bikini Line including Knight Rider, Shaved (Like a Razor), the howling anthem Dog on a Chain, as well as a number of new songs and material.  Corndawg also performed Middle Brother, the title track of indie super group Middle Brother’s 2011 album which Jonny performed and co-wrote.  Jonny Corndawg closed the night with a humorous lip-sinking Corndawg impersonation by Extraordinaire lead singer Jay Purdi, and an a capella version of Silver Panty Liners (personal favorite).
