Announces Dates for “The Resolve Tour”

Continuing and strengthening his commitment to use art and music to bring effective, positive change to the world, KOJI will embark on “The Resolve Tour” this Spring. Resolve formed in 2005, and since has worked together with communities in central and eastern Africa seeking an end to the brutal violence committed by Joseph Kony and other leaders of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a rebel group at the center of Africa’s longest and arguably most ignored war.

Born Andrew Koji Shiraki, KOJI is an American artist and activist from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Over the past six years, Koji has toured independently, focusing much of his efforts on supporting advocacy organizations such as Resolve, Invisible Children, and Humility Now. He has played shows and toured with such acts as Kevin Devine, Owen, mewithoutYou, La Dispute, Balance and Composure, Hostage Calm, and more. Currently, KOJI is touring the United Kingdom supporting Such Gold (6131 Records), an independent tour that is selling out small rooms throughout the country.

In 2010, KOJI signed with Run For Cover Records from Boston, Massachusetts, releasing Spring Song Vol. 1, a full-length live record tracked at intimate house shows on KOJI’s Spring tour. He then released Some Small Way, his long-awaited first full-band release, recorded with Gabe Liberti at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn (Ted Leo, The National). Finally, in November, No Sleep Records released IIOI/KOJI, a 12″ vinyl split with Chicago’s Into It. Over It., which garnered much praise from around the world, most notably being named one of “2010′s Most Overlooked Albums” by the Associated Press, alongside such notable artists as Mumford and Sons, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and Gucci Mane. KOJI’s 2010 exploits led him to be named as one of Alternative Press Magazine’s “100 Bands to Know for 2011″ (April 2011 issue).

KOJI and Resolve have decided to take to the road to spread awareness for the issues taking place in Africa. The 10 week full-US tour will differ from other music tours, even those involving activism, because each event will feature an activism workshop following the musical performance, where theResolve/KOJI team will have a tailored action plan for the demographic attending the show to directly get involved and end the conflict in LRA-affected regions. The events will also feature a longer set from Koji, a short Resolve video, and a question-and-answer session.

For more than two decades, the LRA has abducted tens of thousands of children, forcing them to become child soldiers and sex slaves in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Central African Republic. This war has been largely ignored by the international community even though it is characterized by widespread, brutal violence against civilians, namely children. The dedicated team at Resolve conducts in-depth field and policy research related to the LRA crisis and facilitates nationwide advocacy campaigns in order to both motivate political leaders to make ending this crisis a genuine priority and guide their efforts toward effective, responsible policymaking.
