Launch -WXPN Free at Noon & Funky Friday

If you don’t have to work today or if you have time to slip away at lunch to come over to the Chameleon, you’ve gotta’ make it happen. WXPN every Friday hosts a “Free at Noon” concert which usually take place at World Cafe Live in Philly. But this week it’s happening in our own back yard! As part of the Launch Music Conference, The Chameleon Club will be hosting WXPN’s Free at Noon and it’s Funky Friday program with David Dye, from 5-PM. WXPN and NPR present Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams at noon. (see band bio, courtesy of WXPN’s website, below) And at 4PM come feel good and shake it a little with David Dye and he spins a live dance party for Funky Friday. We can’t stress enough how cool both of these FREE events will be. But if you plan on coming you’ve gotta’ sign up on the WXPN website to get in. Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams
Formed in Sleepy Hollow, New York in the late 90′s, Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams is one of the best known and loved bands in their home state, singled out as Hudson Valley Magazine’s “Band of the Year” for the past 3 years. On stage they create an enchanting atmosphere, using traditional folk instruments, tasty electric guitar and the distinctive singing and songwriting of Joziah Longo. Citing influences as diverse as Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd, Longo describes the band’s music as “punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd”, a mental rollercoaster of whimsical, thought-provoking songs. The Circus’ live shows are where the real magic comes down, earning them critical acclaim as well as a fiercly loyal following. Their last studio release, “Flapjacks From The Sky” has been hailed as a masterpiece by many and continues to make a buzz internationally as a great americana work of art. Their latest cd, “The Great Unravel” was released in August, 2008. They also played our XPoNential Music Festival 2009. – WXPN 88.5 Philadelphia www.XPN.org
