Makonnen Sheran, age 25, better known as iLoveMakonnen, kicked off his Loudest of the Loud Tour at Underground Arts in Philly on May 2nd. His song, “Club Goin’ Up On a Tuesday” was remixed by Drake, renamed “Tuesday” and now has over 52,692,553 plays on Spotify.

Makonnen started out making songs on his Gateway computer back in 2008.  Between 2011 and 2013, he released several albums and EPs, including the first volume in his Drink More Water series. Fast Forward to 2014, Mike Will finally reaches back to him and introduces him to Metro Boomin, who links him up with Sonny Digital, 808 Mafia, and a bunch of other producers. He released his self-titled EP, ILoveMakonnen…then Miley Cyrus shared it on her instagram.

He is currently on Drakes label, OVO Sound. The beats are original, unexpected, and fun. Check out his other jams like “Swerve”, “Maneuvering”, “Look at Wrist” , and “I Don’t Sell Molly No More”. If nothing else, definitely check out his song, “Vodka on the Weekend” featuring Pyramid Quince, Rich Pro Slim, and Archibald Slim; it’s slow jam Enya-like beat is pretty chill.

He performed around 12 on a Saturday at Underground Arts, and the flow was pretty strong. The crowd seemed about it. He came out, took some selfies and said his manager had tried to get him to cancel the show but Makonnen said no, he wanted to come to Philly. He went into his song “Swerve” which has a cool bird-like call on repeat.

The crowd was hanging against the pit and you could tell they were pretty excited to catch the show. As soon as the beat would hit, you knew which song was about to go off…especially when he performed “I Like Tuh”, a track he’s featured on with trap-EDM producer, Carnage.

He seemed pretty in his element. The plastic head featured in some of the music videos bobbed up and down in the crowd on a stick which matched the screen printed banner hanging behind Makonnen and his DJ. After the show he shook hands with a few fans and took photos with the crowd.

It was a good start to The Loudest of the Loud Tour supported by KEY! and Sonny Digital. He’s currently sold out in LA and San Fran and is finishing off the tour in Santa Ana on May 18th.
