Lowdown from Hogmaw Before Steal Your Fest - Starts Today!
An interview with that fabulous picking, bluegrass band, Hogmaw, who plays Steal Your Fest which Starts tomorrow. Steal Your Fest you might know as, Jerry Fest. The name changed, but the lineup and love for Jerry Garcia still shine through bright at this renamed fest. Read below to learn more about this fest and Hogmaw. Interview by Michael Males from My Rural Radio, who also contributors to TSI from time to time. Interview is with Hogmaw’s Colin Kowalewshi.
TSI: Hey guys, how goes it? So you are playing THE STEAL YOUR FEST (Jerry Fest) which is starting tomorrow. Fantastic. Are you all excited to play this fest?
Hog Maw: Being that I’m probably the resident dead head in Hog Maw, I’ll answer. We’re really excited to bring our sound and our twist on bluegrass to PA’s dead head crowd!
TSI: What are you MOST excited about?
Hog Maw: I’m excited to see my buddy Mike Miz and his awesome band, and as long as both our schedules work out, fest goers may get to see some collaboration between us.
TSI: Are you a big fan of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia?
Hog Maw: I’ve been a fan of the dead for a long time but it’s always been one of my favorite bands of all time. I’ve seen many members projects like The Dead, Further, Phil and Friends, Ratdog, and Rythm Devils, but unfortunately I was only 10 when Jerry passed away so I never got to see him play.
TSI: Are you planning any Tribute songs in your set list?
Hog Maw: We may do a tribute song or two, we’ll see what happens
TSI: Whats your favorite Jerry Garcia project? Whats your favorite Jerry Garcia song?
Hog Maw: My favorite Jerry stuff was mid/late 70s dead(keith and Donna era) and old and in the way and Garcia/grisman stuff is awesome!
