Mercer Avenue

Asbury Park, NJ is churning out promising acts at an alarming rate, and Mercer Avenue is one of them. Producing a sound reminiscent of New Found Glory and Motion City Soundtrack, the four piece pop-rock group is bringing a fun flare to the heavily dominated punk scene here in New Jersey.

The group recently released their second EP More Than A Statement just this month, and landed a spot with The Youth Ahead at Starland Ballroom (on June 17th) to perform the new tracks. At my first listen to this EP I thought, I’ve heard this before, it was early 2000 and it was everywhere– that power-pop music that was selling out arenas and infecting teenagers like the plague. But then, I listened to it a few more times and this time I thought, these guys have it, they know how to make music that people will sing along to.

The EP opens with a classic pop-punk track “…Like You Mean It,” that will immediately take you back to those early years of high school rebellion. The band’s high vocals and catchy guitar hooks come together to form a collection of well written songs, plain and simple. The EP almost flows as one song, as a continual story, but each track has dominating elements that give it a fresh distinction from the other. To me, that makes sense.

Keep these guys on your radar, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them on next year’s Warped Tour! Check out Mercer Avenue’s new tracks here.
