I get some background on Scranton based guitar wunderkind, Mike Miz, as he is traveling to Philly to do a show at World Cafe tonight. It seems that though his influences are many, it was his dad taking him to see The Dead as a young lad that did it for him. “Seeing Garcia play live when I was about 10 really blew me away.” Miz had actually started playing when he was 6. His father, an excellent guitarist also named Mike Miz, got him a guitar and had him start learning Allman Brothers tunes. “He taught me stuff like Blue Skies.” Warren Haynes, and Dicky Betts are also big influences. Both Mikes play in a band together to this day. They will be performing the ‘Meeting Of The Minds Festival’ after party at a place called, Arlos, in Northern PA. The show will also feature special guests. Mike is also playing the festival with his band. Playing solo or with various groups is a full time gig for Miz. “Music keeps me so busy I don’t have time for anything else.” He plays constantly up and down the east coast and is developing quite the following. Check him out live or even on YouTube and you will see why. As previously stated Mike Miz will be performing at this year’s ‘Meeting Of the Minds III’ festival this weekend. He also makes a trip to the Chameleon Club in Lancaster on September 25th with his band, Jam Stampede, which features members of the band, Juggling Suns.
