The first round of Y-Not Radio’s Modern Rock Madness 2013 concluded today. Hopefully your favorites are still in the running!
Division 3 Bands (By Seed):

It seems to be anybody’s game for the division three bands. There were a ton of really close match-ups including two ties.
The first match-up of the day was between first seed The Black Keys and 16th seed Two Door Cinema Club. The round ended with The Black Keys on top, but only by a meager two percent. Props to TDCC for coming so close and putting up a great fight!
The Black Keys will be playing against Ben Folds (Five), who tied against LCD Soundsystem and beat them in a 15 minute tie-breaker round at the end of the day.
The third match-up for the third division bands tomorrow will be Modest Mouse vs. Nine Inch Nails. Modest Mouse came out on top of The Flaming Lips by four percent while NIN won over the crowd from Sleigh Bells, also by four percent.
There was a second tie today between Silversun Pickups and Passion Pit, but Silversun Pickups wrestled it away in the tie-breaker round at the end of the day. They will be competing with Muse tomorrow after their victory against Dr. Dog. Dr. Dog put up a good fight with their home-field advantage, only four percent.

The fourth division housed a good deal of underdog victories today.
The first round of the fourth division of bands goes to last year’s Modern Rock Madness winners Blur/Gorillaz. They won against newcomer Amanda Palmer, who put up a great fight, only losing by six percent. Blur/Gorillaz will be played against Tegan and Sara tomorrow after their victory against Florence + the Machine by six percent.
The Strokes came out on top of M83 by a narrow margin of two percent while Smashing Pumpkins pulled off an unexpected victory against The Smiths/Morrissey by eight percent of the vote.
Two of today’s underdogs, Garbage and Santigold, will be pitted against one another tomorrow after Garbage’s win by six percent against Phoenix and Santigolds unexpected triumph over Vampire Weekend by 10 percent.
Metric beat Wilco by 14 percent and will be battling Death Cab For Cutie/Postal Service tomorrow after their win against The Joy Formidable by 28 percent, the largest difference of the day.
There were a lot of good match-ups today and all of the bands put up a good fight. Round two will take place tomorrow so keep posted for results!
