The elusive eight of Y-Not Radio and iRadioPhilly’s “Modern Rock Madness 2013” have claimed their spots today and are currently competing against one another to get into the fantastic four and hopefully be named champion tomorrow. Here’s what happened so far today in case you missed it;
Radiohead came out on top of The Cure in the first round of the day, taking away their chances of a second Modern Rock Madness championship. The former won six percent and will be going on to the elusive eight to compete against Arcade Fire after they trumped R.E.M. by only two percent.
The Pixies were able to pull ahead of Beck by a close four percent today and will be going up against David Bowie later after his victory against Nada Surf by a significant 40 percent. Though Nada Surf were strong competitors in past rounds, causing major upsets against the Foo Fighters and Spoon/Divine Fits, they weren’t able to keep it up when it got to the legend that is Bowie. They put up a great fight this year though and deserve some recognition for that.
The third match-up of the elusive eight will be between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who were able to win over 12 percent of the audience from first-seed band The Black Keys. They will have to out-perform the Silversun Pickups after they pulled ahead of Modest Mouse today, winning by six percent.
The final round of the elusive eight later will be between Tegan and Sara, who have had a strong run thus far, winning against Florence + The Machine, Blur/Gorillaz, and today against The Strokes by 22 percent. They will play against Death Cab For Cutie/Postal Service later to try to secure their place in the fantastic four.
The Elusive Eight (with their seed number) 2013:
(1) Radiohead vs. (2) Arcade Fire
(8) Pixies vs. (6) David Bowie
Division 3: (4) Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs. (7) Silversun Pickups
(8) Tegan and Sara vs. (2) Death Cab For Cutie/Postal Service
The results of the elusive eight will also be up later today so keep posted!
