MXPX - Plan Within Plans Album Review & Giveaway!
MXPX has been synonymous with hard thrashing pop punk and has not changed that mentality in the past 20 years and it shows in their new album Plans Within Plans. From the first song “Aces Up” your instantly hit with machine gun drum beats and high pitched heavily distorted guitar riffs. My personal favorite on the album is “Screw Loose”. I actually don’t even think its the best song on the album. I just found “Screw Loose” refreshing because it has been so long time since I heard a song last only a minute long. From the days of compilation albums such as Punk-a-rama and Cinema Beer Nuts that were packed full of songs that rarely went over two minutes. It was that get in and get out mentality of punk rock that I loved growing up. Its that mentality that many pop punk bands of the past lost and failed trying to go mainstream.
Some may criticize MXPX for not taking a bigger leap into progressing their music, although I feel this album is perfect to not reach for something and fail like many pop punk bands have done in the past. Stick to what you know and what everybody loves. There is a reason MXPX has been around for 20 years and they have continued to do just that in Plans Within Plans.
