Yesterday, the native New Jersey singer/songwriter Matt Marlinski released his new 5-track EP, Take Control. He shared his first song “My Own Mistake” two weeks ago with the EP hopefully following closely behind it.

During the day, he’s working 9-5, and by night he’s a bona fide rock star equipped with an acoustic guitar to make your senses melt. (Okay maybe just sight and sound. Unless you get close enough to smell.)

As an individual going through the motions of adult life, he realized something was missing. Marlinski wrote on his Instagram, “Becoming a singer/songwriter has been my most important life epiphany. It’s allowed me to step back and self analyze everything in my life. I realized a few years ago that I severely disliked the path I was going down. Although things appeared well on the outside, I mostly just dragged through my days with no passion or ambition.

Writing and making music on such a personal level has forced me to come face-to-face with all of the things in myself that I didn’t like. This past year and a half has been a process of recognizing the bad in my life, searching for ways to correct it.. and at the same time appreciate all of the good that I have,” he said.

This self-financed EP didn’t come about to become rich and famous. It’s more about the discovery and creation of what has made him who he is. Being a part of multiple bands in the past, he realized that music was the positive in his life and needed to regain the bliss that once was there. Marlinski shared, “this journey has been my effort to “Take Control” of my life trajectory and make sure that I live every day with love and passion for the work that I create and the relationships that I form. It’s an effort that continues today. Although not every song touches on this topic, it’s the underlining theme throughout.

The EP is available on Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, Google Play, Amazon Prime and Soundcloud. Take Control is part one of a two-part EP. Marlinski is expected to go back in the studio in the spring, with hopes of releasing another 5-song EP in the summer.

Marlinski is always performing and picking up gigs in the New Jersey/New York area. Follow him on his socials to stay up to date with his whereabouts.
