Lockn’ Festival, formerly known as Interlocken Music Festival, started in 2013. For some, it has been been the center of the music festival universe for the first week of September ever since. A veritable who’s who of the jam band world, Lockn’ features such heavy hitters as all of the “Core Four” surviving members of the Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Umphree’s McGee and loads of other headliners…Oh, did I mention two sets by Robert Plant with The Sensational Space Shifters? Yeah, it’s like that!
This year’s underlying theme seems to be collaboration. Take for instance, the fact that Bob Weir does not have a scheduled “set,” rather he is the official “Guest Of The Day” on Saturday, a day that also features Phil Lesh And Friends already featuring Carlos Santana! By the way, Phil will be playing two sets (one Friday, one Saturday) with a different set of friends each time. That day also has Jimmy Cliff sitting in with Widespread Panic. BOOM!
The Doobie Incident is exactly what it sounds like, members of the Doobie Brothers backed up by String Cheese Incident. String Cheese will do two other sets as well. One major entries worth mentioning are Mad Dogs and Englishmen, a tribute set to Joe Cocker hosted by Tedechi Trucks Band and featuring such legendary performers as Leon Russell, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge and Chris Robinson, as well as Jorma and Jack, a Jefferson Airplane set.
Lockn’ Festival is held at the Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, Virginia this Thursday September 10. Weekend camping and day passes are still available.
