Passion Pit Cancels On Tour & Firefly Festival
Deleware Online / Firefly Festival Blog states:
Indie pop/rock band Passion Pit — one of the top-tier Firefly Music Festival acts — abruptly canceled seven shows of its summer tour on Monday, including Saturday night’s festival performance in Dover due to the “mental health” of its leader.
It’s a double blow for Firefly, which not only had a 75-minute Passion Pit set on its Saturday schedule for 8 p.m., but the band was also headlining Firefly’s lone official after-party later that same night at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.
Greg Bostrom, director of the Firefly Music Festival, says he is currently working on the festivals’ next step in the wake of the cancellation, which leaves him with two open slots.
“We’re still working through some of the details today,” he says. An update is expected later this afternoon.
The electropop band from Massachusetts is releasing its much-anticipated second album, “Gossamer,” on July 24, and was scheduled to begin its tour yesterday at Cincinnati’s Bunbury Music Festival. That show was canceled due to “band illness.”
On Monday, several more shows were canceled, including at Firefly and the Apollo Theater in New York next week.
The band’s frontman, Michael Angelakos, shed some light on the cancellations in a post on the band’s Facebook page: “In order for me to ensure that there will be no further disruptions, I am going to take the time to work on improving my mental health.”
UPDATE: As of 5:30 p.m., the only new update has come on Firefly’s Facebook page with organizers writing, “As you may have heard, Passion Pit has canceled the remaining stops on their tour, including Firefly Music Festival. We wish them the best of luck. We’ll keep you posted if there are any updates.”
No other details were given. It is unknown if another act will be booked to fill the festival’s now-vacant 8 p.m. Saturday slot or whether the after-party, which festival-goers paid $24 extra to attend, will go on.
