GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot was found dead during the groups latest tour. There are no details yet about the cause of death or if the tour is going to be cancelled, but what is for certain is that Smoot’s death leaves a big hole to be filled. After joining the band in 2002, Smoot was responsible for the producing the bands latest two releases.
On stage Smoot portrayed the character Flattus Maximus and was the sixth guitarist to play with GWAR. The band is known for their audacious stage presence and show. This was a statement given by frontman David Brockie:
“Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing. There is no word as to the cause of death and the members of Gwar are completely shocked and devastated that this has occurred.”
