Day two was a bit more action packed. Everything started off with interviews, I got a chance to talk with the guys from Cursed Sails, Unlocking The Truth, and Howi Spangler of Ballyhoo, you can check our the TSI Lounge Session Video coming soon.
After closing up the interviews, I headed over to see Unlocking the Truth perform. It was cool to see two very different sides of them. Going from the interview where they ran to play on the beach as soon as we finished talking (as any 12 year old should) to seeing them on stage was such an awesome juxtaposition. Put an instrument and a crowd in front of them and you instantly see the dedication and talent that has gotten them where they are.
The last four hours of my skate & surf experience were spent listening to an awesome reunion of late 90’s-early 00’s indie/pop/punk bands that influenced the lives of most everyone attending the festival. The best part was getting to see all those bands back to back- Ballyhoo, Midtown, Alkaline Trio, Circa Survive, and New Found Glory. From Ballyhoo calling themselves the ‘reggae relief’ while played silhouetted against the sunset to New Found Glory announcing they will be recording a new album starting in June, the whole day was a perfect bookend to the festival weekend. Skate & Surf, I look forward to seeing you again next year.
