Sarah Sample House show

More and more you hear of this happening. Over the last 5 years bands, artist, and fans have taking matters into their own hands to have shows in living rooms, basements, garages, porches. Fans and artist alike have been looking for alternative outlets to see, play, and hear the music they love.

With the economy sucking and the rise of service fees and ticket sales, fans have not been able to get out as much these days. Musicians are touring now more than ever and using it as a means to make a living. Playing in a venue with 4 other bands on a tuesday night might not get you the most bang for your buck as touring band. But playing in a fan’s garage is a sure way to really connect with fans, make new ones, probably sell merch and make a few bucks on top of that. As a fan you get to intimately connect with musicians you love, hang with friends and make new ones, BYOB and no cab fare home, cause you’re already there.

This is also a great way for folks that live in those sub cities or small towns to invite touring bands and artists to their neck of the woods. Not everyone can make it to a major city to see the bands they love all the time, so what not bring them to you.

Below is a short blurb about a show that took place in a living room in Pilesgrove, NJ last month. Susanne James and her husband Dave invited an artist they fell in love with to play to a house full of guests, Sarah Sample. This was promoted just like a show, there was a cover (so Sara got paid), and neighbors &  friends were introduced to new music and enjoyed time together with light fare and cocktails. See below for Susanne’s story.

Sue James - On April 28, 2011, Sarah Sample performed at our house in Pilesgrove, NJ! Her music and warm personality filled our guests with great vibes! She hails from Boise, Idaho, and she enjoys playing at House Concerts across the US.
Last summer, at the Rocky Mtn. Folk Festival, we met many fans from the Midwest who touted house concerts and told us all about lining up these new singer/songwriters! We had first enjoyed her music on the Sixthman Concert Group’s musical cruise called Cayamo, 2 years ago.

She defines her genre as “Americana”, somewhere between folk and country.
More info includes: Winner of Singer/Songwriter Awards in 2010.

Sarah was the First Place Winner in the Singer/Songwriter Awards for her song “Calling Your Name.” The contest is put on by the international group We Are Listening. Read more here: http://www.wearelistening.org/winners_ssa.php
