Southwork @ Kung Fu Necktie -Philly

Beaus before hoes
Southwork debuts at Kung Fu Necktie on March 19,2011
“Southwork is a seven-piece rock and roll band of classically trained multi-instrumentalists, street pirates, and former Mummers from South Philadelphia.  Drawing influences from The Kinks, Oingo Boingo, and Motown, the band’s distinct sound features horns as well as layered vocal harmonies and percussion.  Expect to hear anything from a ukulele to a mellotron to a kazoo at one of their shows.  Members of Southwork have toured across the United States in various bands including the Swimmers, Distant Orange, and Fat City Reprise at venues including the Viper Room, the Whisky A Go Go, the Electric Factory, the TLA, Johnny Brenda’s, SXSW, The Bitter End, Piano’s, Arlene’s Grocery, Hookahville, the Key Club, the Troubadour, and the Trocadero.” (9:10 – 9:50pm)
Also performing:
Brick + Mortar (NJ) - “Brandon Asraf and John Tacon make up the concrete/electro/drum and bass duo brick+mortar. Hailing from Toms River, N.J., brick+mortar came together in 2008 and since their inception  have destroyed Seaside Heights boardwalk honky-tonks, surf festivals in Virginia Beach, tiny indie clubs in Philly and Brooklyn and the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J. Brick+mortar derive their name from their very own visceral, fundamental grassroots perspective that has them headlining and opening for bands such as Galactic, River City Extension, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Jimmy Eat World – building a movement – brick by brick.” (8:20 – 8:55pm)
.
Univox – “If those words conjure up an image of the four tenors you haven’t heard Univox. Four players. Four singers. Four writers. But this isn’t tuxedos & hair grease or some hazy, lazy Sunday coffee house combo. These boys drive the bottom, pound the beats and turn up the fuzz. On top of this visceral wallop is the vocal interplay of these four young belters. It brings a melodic texture and tunefulness rarely found in the dive bars and vinyl bins of the indie rock world.” (7:30 – 8:05pm)
If you’d like more information about the show, would like to be guest listed for the show, or to schedule an interview with any of the bands, please contact David Kiss at the contact information above.
