Splintered Sunlight to play special “Celebrating Jerry Garcia” show Saturday night 8/6 downstairs at World Cafe Live.

I spoke with Butchy Sochorow, lead guitarist of Splintered Sunlight about their upcoming show. Splintered formed in 1992 and quickly became the most popular Grateful Dead Tribute band in the Philadelphia area. When Butchy first joined the band fifteen years ago, “we got our start playing rooms in the Philadelphia such as, Middle East, The Trocadero, Maui and The Electric Factory. We moved our weekly Thursday night show to Ardmore in 96, and played in surrounding cities and states on the weekends. City or suburb, deadheads have pretty much remained unchanged, we’re everywhere!” He has noticed that “crowds are getting younger and younger. Our best shows seem to be in our “All Ages” venues. This is a wonderful thing for Grateful Dead music and the community.”

Splintered has been playing regularly at World Cafe Live in Philly and Wilmington since they opened, and they love it. Butchy says “World Café Live is now a Philly institution of music and we are honored to be a part of it. Philly has a musical vibe like no other city I know, anyone who saw a Grateful Dead show here could tell you. It also helps that the World Café Live permits all ages to attend and we start the shows at 8pm, which allows more folks to come out and enjoy.”

Splintered Sunlight recently played the Friendly Gathering festival in Vermont. Butchy says, “The experience couldn’t have been better! We loved playing for a crew of professional snowboarders who never saw the band before. The whole scene impressed us. Their vibe was peaceful and happy and they made us feel so welcome. So come out and join the peaceful happy vibe that is sure to be in evidence Saturday night at World Cafe Live, and enjoy the Mid Atlantic’s best Grateful Dead tribute band!
