The Ever-Wakeful City
This morning we woke up in Brooklyn, rested and in the care of old friends. Our hour of music at Pete’s Candy store last night may have been the best we’ve made in that long bus-shaped room over the past two years. The afternoon and evening before Pete’s was an exercise in time warping – the hours stretched unnaturally into what seemed like days, punctuated by the early darkness that comes in December at that latitude. We finished the night at the Commodore in Williamsburg, eating fancy grilled cheese and black-eyed peas while Matt D talked to strangers with his belly button.
The rain came after we left the bar, and it stuck around all the way through our drive to Richmond, VA. We traded naps, and were rewarded with a free meal of Seitan Tostadas and rice at Ipanema, the restaurant/bar where we’ll play and be recorded tonight for the Live at Ipanema series (http://rvanews.com/tag/live-at-ipanema ). Check back in a few weeks for the complete and unabridged session, and if you’re ever in Richmond, I strongly recommend Ipanema for its fancy beer and delicious, yet vegan friendly menu.
Tomorrow we head home to Lexington, KY to recover and prepare for some upcoming holiday music-making. It’s been a great ride this time around, thanks to new and old friends: Dave in Madison, Husband & Wife in Bloomington, Frank S. in Indianapolis, Silverghost & Kelly Jean Caldwell in Detroit, Armadillos in Pittsburgh, The Vicious Guns & Tiare/Emma in DC, and too many to mention in New York.
