Givers to Play XPN's XPNonential Festival 2011

I was able to catch up with Taylor Guarisco from Givers and have a chat before his Live set at WXPN’s XPoNential Music Festival this weekend! One of the things Taylor talked to me about is the band’s home of Lafayette, Louisiana. “It’s about two hours from New Orleans and has it’s own feel. There is a certain energy and enthusiasm at live shows that is really great. People just dance themselves crazy! Everytime we come back home we notice something new.” Returning home to Lafayette is something Givers have done a lot of lately! They just returned home from a tour of the U.K. and will head back again after Sunday’s show at the festival.
Guitarist/Vocalist Guarisco tells me that the defining moment for the band was when they got a slot opening for Dirty Projectors in Lafayette a few years back. Taylor who played bass for Zydeco master Terrence Simian said,”the universe just opened up and yelled at us to drop whatever we were doing; jobs, school, whatever and commit ourselves fully to Givers. That’s when I cashed in all my chips and dedicated myself to the band.”That opening slot turned into a tour opening for Dirty Projectors. The band also had successful sets at South by Southwest (SXSW). WXPN picked up on their infectious and joyous single “Up Up Up” and that airplay lands them on the Marina Stage for a set Saturday afternoon at 2:55 pm. Their strong vocals and rhythmic pop songs should be just the thing to whip the festival crowd into a frenzy! Don’t miss it!
