The Replacements to Release First New Material in 6 Years

Replacements fans, we have some very good news for you. The legendary punk-rock band has reunited (sort of) to release a new covers EP. The reunion consists of founding members Tommy Stinson and Paul Westerber. Chris Mars is not involved with the project, and, of course, neither is the late Bob Stinson, whose guitar playing was a seminal component in crafting the bands raw, raucous sound. This is the first time the band has worked together since 2006 when they briefly reunited to record new tracks for a Best Of compilation. Though few details have been released about the forthcoming EP, the project may have reignited the passion that Westerberg once had for being a Replacement. When questioned as to whether or not the reunion would lead to new original music, Westerberg coyly answered, “It’s possible. After playing with Tommy last week, I was thinking, ‘All right, let’s crank it up and knock out a record like this.’ I’m closer to it now than I was two years ago, let’s say that.” Either way, new music from one of the greatest rock bands of all time is good news. This news comes on the heals of some other exciting Replacements-related business; last month, out of the blue, Westerberg released a new solo track on his website called “My Road Now.” Listen to “My Road Now,” below, and be sure to keep your eyes and ears pealed for more details on the future of the Replacements as they emerge:
