The Mynabirds, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood, is the debut solo project of “Georgie James”, member Laura Burhenn, who’s sweet, soulful voice, is reminiscent of 60’s rock, blues, and soul.
Together with singer-songwriter/producer Richard Swift, the two took to the hills of Oregon, where they took turns on instruments to lay the foundation for Laura’s stunning vocals, with nightly intermissions of whiskey drinking, while dancing to classic records. Finished with the musical touch of contributors, such as AJ Mogis (Monsters of Folk), Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes), Orenda Fink (Azure Ray), and Tom Hnatow (These United States), What We Lose in the Fire… is a wonderfully structured album with instrumentation that perfectly sets the mood whether it is rock, blues, or gospel, coupled with Burhenns vocals, it is done well.
